My Favorite Quotes
#1 When the student is ready, the teacher appears
This is one of my favorite quotes because I've seen it come true, time and time again. When I go home, I usually pick up a few shifts at the country club restaurant near my house. This past winter break, I went to the country club, and I caught up with a friend who also works there. She said, "Michelle, I'm done with this place. I just can't stand it anymore. I mean, I want to do something with my life, not just stand here and wait tables. I want to go back to college and learn French again. I just wish I had the will-power." I said to her, "You do have the will-power. And you can even start today! Me and Barry, one of the chefs, know French, and we can help you practice!" When the student is ready, the teacher appears.

#2 "No man is brave enough that has never walked a hundred miles. If you want to know the truth of who you are, walk until not a person knows your name. Travel is the great leveler, the great teacher; bitter as medicine, crueler than mirror-glass. A long stretch of road will teach you more about yourself than a hundred years of quiet introspection."
-Patrick Rothfuss, "The Wise Man's Fear"

#3 "Sometimes the best help a person can find is helping someone else."
-Patrick Rothfuss, "The Wiseman's Fear"

#4 "Books are the quietest and most constant of friends, and the most patient of teachers."
-Charles Eliot, educator
